Life changing events. . . .

Derek,
You graduated tonight and your Dad and I were so proud of you. Before we know it July will be here and you will be leaving for the Navy. You've got a wonderful adventure ahead of you. You are going to be building a strong foundation for the rest of your life. You're going to see places you've only read about and meet people from all over the country. And most will probably never heard of your home town.
Once you leave things will never be the same around here. You’ll never be the same. We’ll never be the same. We are going to miss you terribly and you’re going to miss us along with your friends, your dog, your room, your truck, your computer, your town, and your Dad’s grilled steaks. When you come home it will be for ‘visits’, and there is a good chance you may never live with us again. You’re starting your new life and going out on your own in the world. I’m so scared for you. I pray for your safety and I pray that we’ve taught you the things you’ll need to know in order to survive. You’ve been a joy to us and loved deeply. There won’t be a day that goes by that I won’t wonder how you’re doing, and say a prayer for you and worry. As time goes by we'll get used to not having you around and that's the way it should be. And you'll survive all of this a lot better then we will and that's the way it should be also. Your home comings will be much anticipated and cherished and I know I'll be looking forward to the first one the day we leave you in OKC.
I'm so very proud of you and am thankful for our time together as a family.
Love,
Nancy
